Mr Roberto A. Meazzi graduated from the School of Languages (now ‘Facultad
de Lenguas’), National University of Cordoba, and soon started teaching at
secondary schools (including ‘Escuela Superior Manuel Belgrano’ - UNC) and
private English institutes in the City of Cordoba. As an undergraduate, he
had already had some teaching experience tutoring adults. A few years
later, he started lecturing at the School of Languages. In successive years, he held the Chairs of English
Phonetics and Phonology I, English Phonetics and Phonology II, Literary
and Journalistic Translation, as well as Technical and Scientific
Translation. In late 1984, he was appointed Assistant Director of the
School of Languages and shortly after that he was appointed Director.
Working side by side with its Assistant Director, prestigious Dr. Arnold Spitta, he ran both the teacher-training college and its
Annexe.
His responsibility until he left office by mid-1986 was to preside over a
university institution (which had not yet been
categorised
as College) with about 250 teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as
over 3,000 students.
Renowned Mr Meazzi also lectured for a couple of years at a tertiary
teacher-training institution in Cordoba City. In 1979, he started CEIM. He
has held the posts of Teacher and Director ever since. In 1983,
dissatisfied with the bibliography being used at that moment at secondary
schools, he created his own textbook. This was based on a careful
syntactic, grammatical, phonemic and lexical contrastive analysis of
English and Spanish. Such a textbook was highly successful at secondary
schools throughout Argentina for some years.
Since he left the School of Languages, Mr Roberto A. Meazzi has been
training hundreds of tertiary and university undergraduates in
Pronunciation Training, English Phonetics and Phonology (all levels, with
special emphasis on phonemic and allophonic transcription, sentence stress
and tonemic notation), English Language (all levels, with particular focus
on oral expression and essay writing), English Grammar (all levels),
Spanish Grammar (all levels), Consecutive Translation and Simultaneous
Interpreting, apart from teaching conversation at all levels and training
for international examinations at CEIM, his language institute. Besides,
he has tutored teachers and translators needing to brush up their skills
in English, and even taught Spanish to foreigners.
Mr Meazzi also excels at tutoring in ESP (English for Special
Purposes) in such diverse areas as Astronomy, Biochemistry, Biology,
Business Administration, Chemistry, Economy, Engineering, Finance,
Journalism, Medicine, Physics and Telecommunications among others.
Finally, it is worth pointing out that Mr Meazzi has various degrees
of proficiency in French, Italian, German, Portuguese and Esperanto.
